Akuvox Video Intercom: Phone Entry with Facial Recognition

We recently installed an Akuvox video intercom system, and it is worth walking through what these systems do now compared to the buzzer panels they replace.
How it works day to day
A guest, a delivery driver, or a contractor arrives at the entrance and finds the resident on the directory. The resident's phone rings, wherever they are. They see live video of who is standing there, they can talk to them, and they let them in with a tap. Nobody has to be home for a package to get dropped off or a cleaner to get in.
This is the same idea behind systems like ButterflyMX, and it works just as cleanly. If you have seen one of those panels in a newer building, you already know the concept.
The part that is different: facial recognition
Where Akuvox goes further is at the resident's own door. The reader recognizes the resident and opens. No app to pull up, no fob to dig out of a bag, no code to remember or share.
That matters more than it sounds like it should. Fobs get lost, lent out, and cloned. Codes get passed around until half the building knows them. A credential that cannot be handed off is a real security improvement, not just a convenience one.
Residents who prefer a card, a code, or the mobile app can still use them. Facial recognition is an additional way in, not a replacement for everything else.
Everything is logged
Every entry is recorded. Who came, who let them in, and what time. When a package goes missing or something happens in a common area, the board or property manager has an actual record instead of a guess.
What it takes to install
These systems need a network connection at the entry panel and at each door station, power over ethernet, and a clean cable path back to the switch. In new construction that is straightforward. In an existing building it takes a walkthrough to figure out what pathways already exist and where we need to pull new cable.
We also build the resident directory, roll out the mobile app, and handle enrollment for facial recognition and credentials. The system only works if residents can actually use it on day one, so that part is not an afterthought.
Who this is a fit for
Condo buildings, gated communities, and commercial properties where guests, deliveries, and vendors show up all day and there is nobody sitting at a desk to let them in. If your building still runs on a hardwired buzzer panel and a bin of fobs, this is the upgrade.
