Starlink for Properties Where Cable Internet Does Not Reach
There are still properties across western Broward, the Redland and rural Palm Beach County where cable internet simply is not available at any price. Acreage, agricultural parcels, marinas, job sites and detached structures well off the road.
Those properties still need connectivity, and increasingly they need it for security systems that are useless without a network.
What Starlink actually solves
It removes the dependency on a cable in the ground. Service comes from satellite, so availability is a function of sky view rather than what the provider has run down your street.
For a property that has been on a cellular hotspot, a slow DSL line, or nothing at all, that is a meaningful change. It makes remote camera viewing, cloud backup, video intercoms and smart devices practical where they were not.
Where it fits with a security system
Worth being clear about the relationship. Your cameras record locally to a recorder whether you have internet or not. Internet is what lets you view them remotely, receive alerts and back footage up off site.
So on a property with no service, Starlink does not make the cameras work. It makes them useful to you when you are not standing in front of the recorder.
It also enables monitored alarm and video intercom on properties where those were previously impractical.
What a clean installation involves
A mounting position with clear sky view, which usually means roof, pole or a purpose-built mast rather than a corner of the yard.
A properly sealed roof penetration if roof-mounted. This is where amateur installs cause problems that show up as leaks later.
A cable route that does not compromise the weather envelope.
Grounding and surge protection, which matters more here than most places because the hardware is on a roof in a lightning-active region.
Network integration, so the connection actually reaches the recorder, the intercom and the rest of the property rather than one room.
Multi-building properties
On acreage, getting the connection from the dish to a barn, workshop or gate is its own project. That is usually a wireless bridge or a buried run, and it is the part people underestimate when they buy the hardware and expect to be finished.
What to be realistic about
Sky view is a hard requirement. Heavy tree canopy is a genuine obstacle, and no installation technique works around it. Heavy rain can degrade the connection temporarily, which in South Florida means occasional interruptions during the wet season.
It is also a service agreement with the provider, not with us. We install and integrate it, and your service terms are between you and them.
